11 June 2019 - Today we received the fabulous news that VCAT has denied the Developer's application to demolish this unique heritage building.
At this stage, we don't know what the next step is, however we are thrilled that VCAT has recognised the significance of this building to our community and Albert Park's (CoPP's) heritage.
We saved 1 Victoria Ave
WE DID IT...
WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT AND GENEROSITY.
Thank you to everyone who donated to assist with legal fees and other expert witnesses needed for VCAT. Together as a community we reached our target of $35,000.
Background - VCAT Hearing
The Developer lodged an appeal (Ref: P2046/2018) with Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) against the City of Port Phillip's Council’s decision to refuse their Planning Application. The hearing commenced on March 18 2019 and ran for 5 days.
Although Port Phillip Council defended their decision at VCAT, we believe local residents and friends of Albert Park needed to be represented to ensure VCAT understood the grave concerns amongst the community regarding destroying the areas' heritage buildings.
All funds raised by Don't Destroy Albert Park Village Inc. were used for legal fees and other expert representation at the VCAT hearing.
Don’t Destroy Albert Park Village Inc. engaged legal, engineering, heritage and architectural experts to represent the community at VCAT to help ensure we do everything we can to fight against the overdevelopment of our unique village.
